「台灣應用劇場發展中心」創立於2005年，是一推廣及實踐應用劇場的非營利組織，主要工作為兩大區塊：應用劇場工作坊（民眾劇場、社區/社群劇場、過程戲劇、教育戲劇）、互動式劇場演出（論壇劇場、教習劇場），也積極連結華人地區應用劇場團體和院校進行交流合作。
應劇中心是台灣發展社區劇場的重要推手，已在各縣市策劃執行近40項社區劇場推展計畫，並持續與性別、教育、移民工等社群團體合作，以戲劇進行教育組織工作。近年更深入學校，培訓中學教師以戲劇手法進行世界公民教育及人權教育。第一線的社區/社群工作坊之外，應劇中心每年創作的互動式劇場演出，則是針對重大社會議題提出尖銳批判、製造觀眾思考及行動的空間，例如《小地寶》、《一僱二主》、《難丁格爾》、《即時製造》、《尋找露西亞》，即探討高房價、勞動派遣、醫護血汗勞動、媒體資本化、逃逸外勞等議題。
Centre for Applied Theater, Taiwan, was founded in 2005. It is a NGO promoting and practicing Applied Theater. The Centre focuses on two main works: developing applied Theatre workshops (People's Theater, Community Theater, Process Drama and Educational Theater) and performing in Interactive Theatres (Forum Theater and theater-in-education). The Centre also actively links up with Theatre groups and schools in Chinese districts for exchange and co-operation.
The Centre is the main force to promote Community Theater in Taiwan and has already executed around 40 Community Theater promotion projects in different cities and countries. The Centre continues to co-operate with gender education groups and migrant communities to carry out educational and organizational works through drama. Recent years, they train secondary schools' teachers on the pedagogy of Global citizenship education and Human Rights education through drama in schools. Every year, the Centre creates drama works and performs them in interactive theaters, focusing on important social issues and providing criticisms for the audiences to reflect and take actions. Their works explore social issues like high housing price, dispatched employment, sweated labor in medical and caring industries, media capitalism and runaway migrant workers.
