2000年的4月中旬，石岡媽媽們在參與了由跨界文教基金會所舉辦的「吹鼓吹災區藝文工作坊」的戲劇工作坊中，媽媽們從切身生活、及地震的經驗出發，進而對未來社區重建等公共議題，透過了戲劇的方式進行反省與思考。在透過民眾戲劇課程中，媽媽們開始從個人的經驗中走出，自發性的成立了「石岡媽媽劇團」，希望持續延展石岡社區媽媽對於社區文化、地方社會、921震災重建區，以及石岡婦女們的關懷。過程中，我們經歷過多次傳統、性別、中央與地方等思維認知差異性的實踐阻礙及挑戰。成立至今，劇團仍依舊秉持行動的初衷：透過戲劇傳達地方民眾自主性的聲音，以自身的「實踐」促進民眾自我培力的力量，落實由下而上地方社會文化發展的內涵。

In the mid of April, 2000, mothers from Shigang joined a drama workshop organized by Cross Border Culture Foundation. Through theatre performances, the mothers reflected on the future of social reconstruction from their everyday lives and their earthquake's experiences. The mothers founded Shigang Mama Theater to keep their efforts on building community culture and local communities, reconstructing the community after 921earthquate and taking care of women in Shigang. Along the way, they have been facing difficulties and challenges created by the traditional, gender and regional differences. Until nowadays, the Theatre has kept their missions: to let the local people voice out through theatre performances, to empower the public by their own practices and to promote local culture from the bottom.
